We call it Dystopian Realism. Because it sounded better than "films about dark stuff but based on reality, and sometimes try and throw a twist in there, but don't do it for the sake of it, if you get me?"
We like to make films that explore the heaviness of life with the lightness of er... a feather.
And sometimes we just like making a film with guns in it. And funny things happening.
We don't allow ourselves to be pinned down by one genre, tone, structure - look, we can't decide what we want our focus to be, alright?
What ties it all together is this simple mantra:
"Do you think we could nick one?"
You could say we focus on the art over the budget.
But what we'd really mean is, "we've found these flowers, maybe they could double up as a bludgeon in the fight scene?"
We're just normal people with normal lives, jobs, problems, joys. We're not like film mutants.
And we're making stuff we wish someone else would make. Because then we could just watch it in bed instead of having to go outside.
But they haven't.
So, we've had a go.
